Dr John Widdowson

Dr John Widdowson joined GCHQ in September 2005 as Director of Information Assurance, from Her Majesty's Government Communications Centre (HMGCC), Hanslope Park, where he had been Chief Executive Officer since 2000.

John began his career as a research scientist and development engineer, working on sonar systems for submarines and surface ships, initially in industry and subsequently in the MoD.  He gained management experience during the 1980s with the Admiralty Research Establishment.

John gained eight years Director-level experience as MoD Director of Technical Scrutiny and later as Director, Chemical & Electronic Systems sector, DERA, before moving to HMGCC.
